About Mia Robey

Mia Robey is a Sussex-based artist working across a range of mediums, including painting and ceramics. Her practice explores fleeting moments, the passage of time and the traces left by natural processes, human hands and lived experience.

Mia began working with clay over a decade ago in London and has spent the past several years developing an established ceramics practice. Her work is now moving beyond its original commercial focus towards a more conceptual exploration of material, making and human experience.

Alongside ceramics, painting has become an increasingly important part of Mia's practice. Through observation, colour and expressive mark-making, she is drawn to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed — changing light, shadows, movement, weather and the quiet details of everyday life.

Across different materials, she is interested in what changes, what remains and what is left behind. Clay carries the history of the earth from which it came and the marks of the hands that shaped it; a shadow records a particular moment of light; surfaces weather, erode and transform. These traces become a way of considering our own relationship with time, place and one another.

Based on the Sussex coast, Mia continues to develop her practice through painting, ceramics and experimentation with materials and processes. Alongside her studio work, she also leads creative workshops, sharing some of the processes and approaches that have formed part of her own creative journey.
